The Writing Movement Network travels to Riga to think about being influential in dance

A discussion on and around topic “How to be influential in dance? On power, money, talent, entertainment, genders, national and regional specifics” will take place on June 10 at 17:30 in “Zirgu pasts” which is one of the buildings of the Latvian Academy of Culture (Dzirnavu St. 46).

Discussion is part of the creative lab of Baltic Nordic collaboration project The Writing Movement Network taking place within International contemporary dance festival “Time to Dance”. The participants of the discussion will be choreographers Francesco Scavetta (Norway), Rene Nõmmik(Estonia) and Olga Zitluhina (Latvia), as well as representatives of The Writing Movement Network”, dance critics Sesselja G. Magnúsdóttir (Iceland), Moa Matilda Sahlin (Sweden), Kamma Siegumfeldt(Denmark) and Inta Balode (Latvia).

Discussion are open to everybody interested and it will be held in English.

Creative lab of The Writing Movement Network in Riga will bring together dance critics from six countries – Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Byelorussia and Latvia. The central topic of this lab is power, influence and hierarchy in dance, paying particular attention to the power position of the critic. Is there such a position at all and how it is getting used?

The participants of the lab will see and analyze performances of “Time to Dance” festival, there will be collective writing and text analysis sessions, participants will also take part in dance classes. Traditional and not so traditional reviews will be written and published.

Baltic-Nordic collaboration project The Writing Movement Network started in 2012 as keðja Writing Movement, where the leading organization was Dance Information Center Norway. Since 2015 coordinator of the network is Dance.lv Journal (Latvia), and this will be forth and last lab of the cycle. Project will end at the end of June and the texts written within it will be available on http://www.journal.dance.lv/ un https://writingmovement.akademia.is/. It is planned that the coordination of The Writing Movement Network will be taken over by partners from Denmark and Sweden.
