The project Šokis žodžiu – ne[w]kritika took place in the festival New Baltic Dance‘14
For the fourth year in a row the international contemporary dance festival New Baltic Dance‘14 has hosted a project of critical writing Šokis žodžiu – ne[w]kritika (Dance through Word – Not[new]criticism). In the festival’s club participants of the project were moderating artists’ talks. By sharing together time, space and thoughts writers, choreographers, dancers and the audience came up closer to each other not only physically but also verbally and mentally.
A young writer Monika Baranauskaitė was inspired to create a comic series on and about the material from the talks.
Two open lectures were presented during the festival for emerging and established critics and were free for interested audiences. Finnish lecturer Max Ryynänen reflected on the body as political instrument in arts, and Finnland based Lithuanian choreographer and dancer Andrius Katinas was moderating a discussion about performative bodies on the paper while all participants were asked – Why do we need a dance criticism?
The participants of the project were attending all the performances of the festival and reviewing single performances, Lithuanian dance platform or they were over viewing the whole festival.
The project was curated by Germany based dance critic Ingrida Gerbutavičiūtė.
