Gjörð verður orð – Verbalizing Physicality

The second event of Writing movement in Iceland Gjörð verður orð – Verbalizing Physicality was a successful and enjoyable gathering. Two excellent lectures and a broad spectrum of audience –  stretching from a young dance student at Iceland Academy of the Arts to a professor of theology at the University of Iceland – had a most fruitful late Sunday morning and afternoon at the Reykjavík Art Museum.

Leena Rouhiainen started the event by giving a learned lecture on phenomenological approaches to research and writing. Moving from theory to practice Leena concluded her workshop by getting the audience to participate in a phenomenological research exercise involving writing, talking and moving around the lecture hall exploring the notions of „introception“, „exteroception“ and „proprioception“.

After the lunch break it was time again to sit down and listen to Camilla Damkjær talk about the cultural and historical context of hand-standing or rather watching Camilla practicing different ways of hand-standing as a slideshow introducing her thoughts and ideas were presented in writing above her head, or more often, her feet.

Reykjavík Dance Festival proved to be a good context for the Writing movement event and the plan is to organize some new activities within the same context next year but what will happen till then time alone will tell.
